The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

I've just finished reading this novel and i must say it's simply marvelous! Being one addictive story with much much interesting information, it also is based on code breaking, deciphering, riddles, annagrams.. and a lot of thinking. So it actually looks like one long and very hard Notpron level!!

So i just thought recommending it to every notpronner with the guarantee that you'll really enjoy reading it!!

:p

did anyone read it by the way?

PS: no this is no commercial advertisement, i swear.

Shame the man couldn't write his way out of a paper bag. I tried reading some, but I just felt so embarassed for the man I had to put it down.

What do you mean? I read this book about a year ago and it's wicked good.

I will admit that the prologue is so graphic that it almost induces fainting, but those with a reasonable amount of strength can get past it.

The book before that, is Angels and Demons. Extremely good. The 2 are part of a 3 part series. don't remember the title to the third though.

I don't mean graphic - just very poorly written. Each to his own, though :)

Excellent story, very badly written. Definitely not a literary masterpiece but a pageturner none the less.

yeah i agree that it's not really well written .. sophie's character for example seems very obscure for me ..

would love to know if DavidM did read it or not..

nope
only been reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld books mostly so far, and since it takes me up to 2 months to read a book I can't just read one incidentially (not because I read slow, but not often :D)

Susi read Illuminati which is also by that guy, isn't it? She loved it. I bet the guy who translates it to German adds writing quality to it, because she didn't complain about that at all....
I'll ask...

He wrote angels and demons, which is based on the illuminati, whether the name of the book got changed during translation I dunno, happens sometimes.

Jooly is incredibly right, some of the novel may arouse interesting ideas but on the whole it is poorly written.

..Almost the exact reply I had in my mind as soon as I saw the thread title ;)

I might get around to reading it some time, but the pieces I've read..gah, poorly written indeed :)

The dutch translation seems a bit better, but I still didn't like it :D maybe I'm biased because I saw the english original first.

Translations are inferiour anyway..pf.

We have something in common \o/
I have read the Da Vinci Code, and like the ones before me have said, I liked the story but it really wasn't too well written...
