substitutions

Post by beefsack »

i got a feeling something like this must have been brought up sometime in the past, but obvously nothing has been done about it. when i have been having friendly clan matches i usually want to substitute players around so everyone can get a run and i can see possible problems with our game. atm substituting is a painful and near impossible thing to do. so i was wondering how possible it would be to have an option so ppl can be on the bench (spectating) and it would be somehow possible to switch players on the fly. maybe there would have to be a leader to choose who subs, i dont know, and it will probably take a bit of thinking to get it right and working well, but it would be a handy addition :)

Really? I don't think it's too hard to change on the fly, it usually takes us around fifteen seconds maximum. Spectator sees subbed player leave, types "open IP" and is in.

Just like in hockey you should make subs when the ball is deep in enemy territory. Then you have less of a chance of getting scored on.

~disconnect
~reconnect
although a waiting line would be really cool.... if there wasn't a problem with bugs :/

as spec just type reconnect and u r in. U can even do that when u start UT, so if it s needed open console, press "up" + "enter" and you join the game. Doesn t take more than 5 secs to do that + loadingtime ...

EDIT: defense moves back, passes ball to keeper (7 sec holding time) and the new player is in ....

simple way: put a 12 player limit.. that way you can bring in a sub and pause on 11 players and resume instantly when the number falls back to 10 and if a person doesnt leave in a certain time limit kick 2 players off the team so they have to play 4v5 for a few seconds or whenever their 5th decides to come back.

thats the whole thing i want to avoid, stopping the game. it needs to be instant, then it would be feasable so sub maybe even 6 times in a game and the game just keeps moving without having to fall entirely back to defence or pause.

Interesting idea.

You could do some really mad coding and end up with something really neat. Allow the server admin to set how many players for each team are allowed to be on the field at one time. It sends that many people into the game when it starts, and the others are put outside. There is a blocking volume around the field for only those who are not participating so they cannot enter the game. Once a player steps outside the line, another player can step on, and then the blocking volume is reset. To stop crazy offensive attacks (say you clear the ball up, drop a defender out and put an attacker up unfairly), you can also prevent them from crossing midfield.

That way it'll work kind of like hockey subs.

Let's say you have to press secondary fire out of bounds if you want to sub out?
