hi guys... please someone give me a helpful hand.

i had quicktime in my computer and i deleted it when deleting some programs... didnt know what was it for.

now, i go to some pages, and it asks me for this program when trying to play bgsounds (ive got BGM conductor).

then, i downloaded it, i installed it too.
but now it looks like firefox doesnt recognize it... i open these pages with bg sounds and i have the same problem. (asks me for quicktime).

i have already downloaded and installed it, i dont know what else to do so that firefox know the program is there.

I assume you can play files fine in the Quicktime Player? Sounds like you don't have the required plugins in Firefox's plugins folder.

Make sure you have the files "npqtplugin.dll" and "npqtplugin2.dll" in the Firefox plugins folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins by default - I assume you're using Windows). If not copy them over from the Quicktime folder (C:\Program Files\Quicktime I believe - might have to dig around a bit. I can't be sure where as I don't have Quicktime installed). You might also want to copy over "nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt" and "QuickTimePlugin.class" but they're not essential AFAIK.

If that doesn't work try uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime and if asked to install plugins (or support? I forget) for Netscape (and/or Mozilla? Again, memory is hazy) say yes (check the box).

If that doesn't work...well...I'll leave that for another time.

actually i did have the plug-ins in the firefox's plugins folder.

when i get to the pages with bgsounds, it tells me that i need quicktime plugins version 5 or later, which i do have! (got quicktime 7)...

If you type about:plugins in Firefox's address bar does Quicktime get a mention (should appear twice)? What version does it say?

it says 7.1 (with the npqtplugin.dll, and with the npqtplugin2.dll)

and i also have 6.5 (npqtplugin4.dll)

should i erase this last one?

So it was npqtplugin4.dll causing the problem (for future reference)? Glad you've got it fixed.

yeah... dont know why, it was version 6.5, and it told me it had to be quicktime 5 or newer...

well, now i have another problem (:P)

it used to play midi files too, now, it doesnt... maybe the 6.5 could play them but this cant??

You should have a Quicktime option in the Windows control panel. On the browser tab click on the MIME Settings button. Select midi under audio. I'm going to bed now so if that doesn't work you'll have to wait till tomorrow unless someone else chips in.

ok, in fact, it was unselected. i did select it, (and actually selected some more)...

but it still wont play the midi files...

Can you confirm that midi now appears under QuickTime Plug-in in about:plugins?

nope, it doesnt...
do i need to copy the plugins again to the firefox folder??

It should do it automatically but yes, copy them over again and re-check about:plugins.
