Ignobel! (pun intended)
The raspberry-equivalent of the Nobel prizes.

I like how discovering a teenager-repellent accounts for an Ignobel for Peace :)

-- PEACE - Howard Stapleton of Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, for inventing a teen-ager repellent -- a device that makes a high-pitched noise that is annoying to teen-agers but inaudible to most adults; and for later using the technology to make cellphone ringtones that teenagers can hear but not their teachers.

I've seen the advertising for that ringtone. It was originally marketed as the "silent ringtone" but now, due to some confusion, it's called "teen buzz". It doesn't work. Most 30+ year olds can hear it, but probably not really old people.

Yeah the ads are pretty popular here Rince :o

It's stupid though..most kids these days probably have worse hearing than their teachers :) (e.g. by listening to low-quality low-impedance ipod earbuds at top-volume..)

I can hear it in on some TVs, most TVs however aren't able to produce the sound, and I have a feeling some TVs produce a lower sound than it should actually be..that'll probably be the same for phones :)
