No killing huh? You might need to add netting around the side of all the maps if people are going to start being kicked around (by the sound of it).

also, ut2004 does have everything that db needs. apart from players.

Even if you only ported DB to UT3 for the new engine alone, I bet it would bring a lot of players back to the mod and also attract a new crowd.
People always want new, shiny stuff ... can't blame them.
No idea, how much effort this would take, but it might be worth it.

Except I take a bulldozer into the dead end and create a new road.
Stupid metaphers make it look like a good idea that could work. Better ignore them
