i just noticed this on planetunreal, but its a compo for mod makers out there to show epoc teh skillz.

few cut and pastes from page 1:

"Epic Games does more than tolerate mod makers, it encourages them. To prove this, the company is sponsoring the richest contest in computer game history, giving away cash and prizes totaling over $1 million. "

"The purse, which will be split among 13 categories, includes $500,000 in cash, top-of-the-line workstations, and a $350,000 license to publish a game with the Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 engine."

I think deathball 1.7 should enter this, david could get some green from the idea along with any coders getting a job?

*edit* one more, if deathball was to win....

"Grand Finalist Game Mods: 1st-150,000, 2nd-50,000, 3rd-40,000, 4th-30,000, 5th-20,000"

I was just about to paste the same thing in a new thread, but then I saw this. :o

EPIC GAMES AND NVIDIA KICK OFF "$1,000,000 NVIDIA MAKE SOMETHING UNREAL" CONTEST is a press release announcing an Nvidia sponsored contest which will reward people who make the best custom content for Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004.

From June 2003 through Spring 2004, the "$1,000,000 NVIDIA Make Something Unreal" contest is broken into three phases, each offering a chance to win prizes. The first prize announcement will take place in Winter 2003. Grand prize winners will be announced at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) held in San Jose, CA, in March 2004.

In addition to cash prizes totaling US$500,000 and the ultimate prize of a commercial Unreal Game Engine license (valued at $350,000), contestants can compete for more than $300,000 worth of high-end PCs featuring the combined processing power of NVIDIA's GeForce FX graphics, the NVIDIA nForce2 platform and AMD Athlon processors, and more than $30,000 worth of Maya Software, the leading 3D modeling, animation and rendering software used in many high-end game and Hollywood production studios.

Prizes will be awarded in categories like best level, best model, best mutator, best vehicle, best use of Karma Physics and best non-FPS mod. More info can be found at http://www.makesomethingunreal.com.

deathball is a FPS, so it would be in the other category

the contest describes FPS as a mod that has a first person perspective

i think for deathball to really make an impact it will have to really take on its own visual style. db still feels like suped up bombing run. we need player models :S

I kinda agree with 027, Deathball can fall into both categories, but I think DavidM can just enter it into the NON-FPS mod category.
