The third 1.7 Beta...

I've had a go (against bots) and here's what I think...

MUCH better than the second beta. I like the sounds now (will these stay?). The scoreboard is still buggy but is getting there. I'm very pleased to see the keepers are back to normal and that you don't have to go in the keeperzone to register as a keeper...

I like the HUD message telling you about how many jumps you've got left. Could be better implemented though, not just a number in the corner (which overlaps the keeper icon)...

I'm not keen on losing all jumps when in possession but I do understand why this was done. I'm sure I'll get use to it...

I don't like the new untargeted pass power at all. I often set up volleys using the pass button but now it's just too weak. Also I think the weaker power will encourage people to dribble again...Not in the same way as before, but if you pass in front of you and chase it you don't slow down. It's easy to do this now the untargeted passes are much weaker. Is making these passes weaker really necessary? Pass goals will become very rare and I fear people will try to dribble in the manner I mentioned. Any thoughts?

overlapping? what resolution do you use?
in 1280x960 its good for me

sounds will stay, yeah
only changed the hammer sound back, cause the new one was really annoying

rofl... don't expect that everybody runs db in this resolution.. I'm happy I get 50 fps with 1024x768.. and I know others have more trouble

I use 1024x768 and the jumps number does overlap other icons...It's not a big problem, but it does seem that the jump number has just be slapped in without any thought on the layout of the HUD...

i get about 30fps in most rez's, but thats my gf4 eating my 850 athlon :(

the number in 1024x768 sticks out a little for me, slap it in the bottom left corner or something. or even have it able to be turned off. i got no need for a jump counter getting in the way.

Wow, this beta is even slower than any other make of the game. The no jumps after a pass slow the offense down, and the weak pass shots make every play a volley set up.

WOO HOO YEEEAH!!!...............

Why are you focusing more and more on volleying and less and less on actual tactics?

Or you could leave the untargeted pass strength how it is. I don't see why it was reduced in the first place...

Other things I've noticed:
- The keeper bug is still in (when a teammate passes back to the keeper who is standing on his goaline...When the keeper catches it he scores an own goal).
- The server stats - Could you make them simpler? Sprint=false and Banana=true could be much clearer to read if it simply said Sprint=On and Banana=Off...Might be clearer for n00bs to understand...

ok, i played it for about an hour against bots 'cos I couldn't connect to server :( And here's what I think. And it's the usual two things that everyone is complaining about...

No jumps after catching the ball is baaad. I know the boost-trick has to go, but isn't there a way to cancel jumps based on speed/height? I never realised how much I got used to jumping when I catch the ball.

My biggest problem is with the pass-shot speed. It is now the same speed as tapping the charge-fire button. In 1.6 I score half of my goals with the pass shot, taking advantage of dodge-happy keepers. The other problem with losing the speed is I set up wall-volleys for team-mates using the pass as well.

As for speed:
- lowcube: 65fps at 1024x768, normal settings, 11 bots
-cube 2.2: 50fps, same settings.
-cube 2.2 with *everything* at full: 40fps
That's on my athlon1700+, geforce4ti4800. So it's fine for me, but I pity those trying to play it on less powerful machines...

With all that said...I like it. Thanks for putting the old shield-gun sound back in, and the weapon bob is nice. You don't feel like you are floating anymore.

oh, and one last thing...no need for the jump counter. It just fills up hud space. I have already shrunk my HUD to 60% and taken out everything (health,score etc...) so I can see more of the screen, and I don't want to lose any more of it...

That s the point! It s a pass, not a shot! noone used shooting if he was 1on1 with the keeper cos the pass-shot was too strong (no loading, no shaking, stronger than a tab on the shoot-button). That s why it s slower now. But as davidm said, it s not final yet.

If I'm 1 on 1, I will tend to use charge shot. The pass shot is useful when you make a dash through the p-box, and just want a quick tap-in.

i hate pass shots, there fine when hardly used but theres alot of pass shot players who only use it what is quite sucky. same goes with n00b cannon.
