Worst Virus Ever ---cnn Announced - Stop It In Its Tracks!

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever! This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed. This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored.

This virus acts in the following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title "A Card for You". As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened, the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN. This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself.

So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as you get the mail, delete it!! Even if you know the sender!!! Please pass this mail to all of your friends. Forward this to everyone in your address book. I'm sure most people, like myself, would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at all.

Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with DB, but I wanted to warn as many people as I could.

It sounds like you are taking this seriously - but anything that generally says something like "Forward this to everyone in your address book" tends to be an email hoax. This has all the markings of one.

If its real, please link to the mcafee website definition of this particular virus.

See some hoax info.

All credit to you for your good intentions - but I'm afraid it is a hoax. Plesae don't forward it to anyone, it just creates more spam.

McAfee dont have any virus classed higher than 'low risk' discovered this month at all.
McAfee Virus database

A quick google for the first line of the email found the following sites listing it as a hoax:

http://hoaxinfo.com/virtualcard.htm

I pity your friend if he has had lost data. I doubt it was a virus that did it. Anyway, sector zero usually only contains bootstrap information so it would be very easy to retrieve data from a disk that had only had sector zero wiped.

sigh, why don't people find out things before spamming everyone they know? or worse, start deleting files on their system?

you cant destroy a whole computer doing a hard reset or soft reset for they are simple interuptions in power.

The only way to trigger viruses are to actually sending a signal to your computer.

A long time ago, prolly 2 years now, i had a virus that ait my hard disk away sector by sector every time i hit F1. This may not sound signifigant but it adds up since to bypass a boot error (something like "the header of your hard disk has been corrupted") you had to press F1.

You get screwed by MS's own advancement feature. Go figure.
