Review #4 - DB-Sunset

Post by Armagon »

G'day folks, today I'll be taking a look at DB-Sunset by Twigstir.

So what's the map like?
There's not really a whole lot to say about the gameplay of this map. As with most of Twigstir's maps, it's solid.

At either end of the field there are the differently shaped goals (unique to Twigstir's maps), with reasonably sized penalty zones. On either side there are close walls that push out then turn off into the main walls of the map. This provides oppurtunities for new volley setups, though I'll leave those for you to discover yourself. ;)

In the roof there are several windows which results in a more varied structure and the potential for a unpredictable ball deflection if it hits an angle (though this shouldn't really happen too much).

The goal events for the map are good, with a redeemer-like explosion occurring whenever a goal is scored. Another fun little twist is that the words "Access Denied" pop up inside the goals whenever a shooter only manages to hit the post. In addition to this, the player is mocked with taunts of "You play like a girl!" and "Is that your best?". This may annoy some people after a while, dependent on how often post hits occur.

Visuals of the map are good. The textures are clean and well aligned. The skybox looks nice with the sun dipping beyond the horizon (hence the map title). The lighting is well done and there are several little details like windows and banners that give the map that little bit extra.

You'll find you get a smooth framerate on this map, nobody should have any difficulty playing on it.

Pros
- Great gameplay.
- Nice visuals.
- Smooth framerate.

Cons
- Post hit taunts may annoy some people after a while.

Overall
Graphics 7/10
Gameplay 8/10

A nice wide open map, good for 8-10 players (as Twigstir himself suggested). Definately worth checking out.
