Review #10 - DB-MidNight

I have the Chance to Help Armagon with his Reviews, since I think it's a wonderfull thing he does with the community, I think a helping hand would be good for him :p
So here we go:

The Map
The map looks like an old MiddleAged Arena, with Twigstirs' futuristic Goals (r)
I don't even have to say, that the map takes place in a Midnight Fight or sth like that
The map reminds me of ClearNight and Peacefull night, and to tell the Truth, these maps are pretty much the same with some changes. But I think If I have to Chosse from this 3, I would Choose MidNight.
The Design
The Design is (as said above) something that reminds me of the MiddelAged castles, or sth like that. The Textures are well used to give us this feeling. The Goal and the Penalty Zones are made a bit futuristic (Twigstir uses this in most of his maps). IMHO these goals don't really fit into the world of the map. There are too many ages between the two. Anyways, the Size of the Map is well done, since it supports 10 ppl very good, althought it has a smaller size than Cube. Now let's talk about the Walls... They are very empty, I should say... too empty. It should have some detail... It would not hurt the FPS, Which I have to tell you, is very good indeed. The Lighting is a bit... arm... irreal. It should Be midnight, But something gives us somuch light, that it just can't be midnight! There should have been less Global light, and more small lights (fire etc.) So this is a bit bad in the map. The Skybox looks a bit interesting. With 2 Marses in it, And they are soo big that Actually it would be impossible, but that's me again, that fraggin book I usually read
and it about Stars
and planets
... but lets get back. I would prefer a smaller white moon in the sky. And just one moon.
The Gameplay
The FPS in the game is good, but I already told u that. The walls make the map an ideal place for volley Whores, althought the ball has a good chance to get reseted. Beside each goal, there are no Corners actually. The Same shape is used, Just Like In DB-Avenir, another good map. This effects the Gameplay dramatically and adds a new type of strategy (and a new hope for SelfVolleyEgos
)
The Mappers Atention
The Mapper could have set on the map a bit more to make it look prettier, but I think this isnt bad. The only thing I am really sad about is the lights, and the Skybox... More working and waiting for more feedbacks, could have made the mapper to fix these problems. Anyways, these stuff don't effect The gameplay which are imho good. Because the Gameplay is fluent, and good.

The Design: 10/6
The Gameplay: 10/7
The Originality: 10/8
The Mapers Atention: 10/7
The Overall: 10/7
The Over-Overall
This map has a good gameplay, which I think is very usefull after all those Cubeclones. imho with this map, the community has won something, sth good. I personally admit this map to all those who give a chance to other, Fan-Made maps, and I admit this to everyone else... It's worth to download!
