Linux Gurus needed

Hi, please can anyone that knows a thing or 2 about linux (maybe mandrake linux if poss) please take a look at my post here and let me know what im doing wrong..

are you doimng sall thr changes logges in as root...if not you settings might be reseting because a normal user is trying to change settings. also i have heard that some people have a program that is settings are changed they will revert back an hour later for testing purposes

im login in as my user, then doing "su -" to go as root and doing the changes..

ahha! looks fixed... Mandrake has a cron task that runs every hour which checks security and resets everything back to "022" grrr.. so ive edited it to not do that

so far so good..
