New shapes !?

It seems like all the maps coming out now are either cubes or circles, with the occasional U thrown in. While fun, a new "shape" could certainly be interesting.

I guess any other quirky ideas would be appreciated too :)

I was watching some tv and it had egyptian junk on. and i thought perhapse a pyarmid map. like square bottom all leading up to a point, with indents no each side for the goals. thus making it extremely hard if anyone wants to pass off the wall or self volly. :)

meaning it probably wouldn't get played so i havnt done any work on that idea ha :)

I've often tried to make maps that change gameplay, even if only a little. But you have to be careful when making a DB map, because if it's too spammy nobody will play it.

Like i said in another thread, it doesnt have to be a field.. Try something like CTF-Citadel, im sure that will be fun, think about it, on those 2 towers you can make extreme long passes, you can even pass down somewhere and then you have to cover someone cuz if you don't he has so many ways to go to

I personally Like own ideas... or at least some things that try to tweak the gameplay... I see some mappers who make a map every week, but their maps don't have it all... Maybe they play well, but they contain notheing new. I like new stuffs... I like to add something to the gameplay... in DB, it is the shape of a Map. Since the maps are easily to make, there has to be no real big Shape, I Still think, that there could, and there should be some Really good maps, with new ideas....

heh shit i've been thinking about new shapes for awhile now and when i think about it alittle bit longer, i realize that the map will only be played maybe one match and then get scraped...so what im saying is im all ears to any new good ideas that people have

U should make up your own ideas... that's what it's about... your map, with your ideas mainly... I don't like to steal ideas and stuffs... but sometimes we have to... but mainly Shapes... noo... Shapes should be completely own.

BTW... Be only played for one match... that's only right, if the shape of the map suxx... if u make up a good map with an original idea, it can work... And most of the Costum maps are not Played FORever... mostly SC and Cube are played... maybe Costums are played sometimes, but... they don't have a longer life unless they are superb. Althought here is this costum map server with avenir... where u can vote, but It's useless most of the times, since you are forced to play that map...

well its tough to get an idae off the groud, i don't have a server to test these ideas on, and after a mapper spends a good week on a map trying to get ridda some bugs that are typical in a map. you never know if its really ready to be an official release, save for twig being generious enough to host some of my stuff. its hard tough stuff.

we need like a mapping guild or somthing (as gay as that sounds) where mappers can pool ideas and all get together to beta test eachothers maps. its been done before in other mods anyway, and that usually requires 16 people for a good test, db jus need 8 people :O

if only i didn't jus find out my workplace is going under i'd look into getting a server for such an idea , but poop :< i even have a krad domain i've never put to good use http://www.lagfrag.com ;)

Well if nothing else I started some controversy, right? :lol:

I understand Mayer saying we should have our own ideas, but sometimes forums like these inspire mappers to do cool things. A lot of differences in gameplay can come about by adding different details to the same basic shape.

If we did start a mapping guild, count me in. It would certainly be more incentive to stop playing DB and Raven Shield long enough to actually make some more maps that Inphidel hasn't done already :)

As a side note, has anyone tried converting a BR map to DB and playing that? I don't know how the dynamics would be really...probably bad (already heard David :) )

You got stairs in the middle (kinda pyramid thingie) and corridors down the side (this should make defenders stay with their attacker) the rest is a normal pitch ofcourse, imagine how passing would be..

yes, but fun! im sure about that, if i would pass someone on the other side my ball could bounce at everything, but atleast its different...
