Maybe all these long, time-consuming words we use now will once be considered extremely archaic and inefficient

You get completely smashed for no reason anyway.

Yeah it was just a thought

Not everything can be directly related to the surroundings but in some cases it does make sense !

'Seems to make sense', yes ;p
It's not like we can ever actually know

Until recently, the 'science' of etymology was all about guessing as well

Alot of things can be assumed to be right but yeah it's all guess work at the end of the day
This thought came from a voice coach I had once, who was trying to help us achieve the South American accent ^^
Their introduction to accents was basically about things that have already been mentioned, cultural aspects, surroundings and so on. It can be applied to most accents just not all

Merriam-Webster's word of the day, (I get them in my emal

):
palaver • \puh-LAV-er\ • noun
1 a : a long parley usually between persons of different cultures or levels of sophistication b : conference, discussion
2 *a : idle talk b : misleading or beguiling speech
Example sentence:
"Ask folks involved why they opted to make [the movie], and you're not going to get a lot of palaver about high art and noble intentions." (Joshua Rich, Entertainment Weekly, May 19, 2006)

Hmm..I should subscribe to that

interesting!
Also, I got an Etymological Dictionary today \o.
It's in Dutch, but I plan on getting an English one as well eventually
It's a present for my graduation

so I still have money left for more trivial things (like beer and other such 'important' students' expenditure).

For all of you who have a personalised Google page, there is a word of the day extra :
Toady's is "languor: lack of energy or vitality."
Very fitting word for me today ^^
