Since when does Iraq have anything to do with 9/11?
Ohh wait I get it..
..no wait I don't.
The President never said there were operational ties between Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. He never said Saddam attacked us on 9/11. A lot of newspapers and politicians over here put those words in his mouth though.
Here's what he has said:
"America must not ignore the threat gathering against us. Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof, the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud."
"America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our people."
"Any government that supports, protects or harbours terrorists is complicit in the murder of the innocent and equally guilty of terrorist crimes."
"Any outlaw regime that has ties to terrorist groups or seeks to possess weapons of mass destruction is a grave danger to the civilised world and will be confronted."
"For all who love freedom and peace, the world without Saddam Hussein's regime is a better and safer place."
"Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward, and freedom will be defended."
"On September 11 2001, America felt its vulnerability even to threats that gather on the other side of the Earth. We resolved then, and we are resolved today, to confront every threat from any source that could bring sudden terror and suffering to America."
"The resolution approved today presents the Iraqi regime with a test - a final test."
"The terrorists are fighting freedom with all their cunning and cruelty because freedom is their greatest fear - and they should be afraid, because freedom is on the march."
"When I take action, I'm not going to fire a $2 million missile at a $10 empty tent and hit a camel in the butt. It's going to be decisive."
"We're pursuing a strategy of freedom around the world, because I understand free nations will reject terror. Free nations will answer the hopes and aspirations of their people. Free nations will help us achieve the peace we all want. "
And here are the kickers:
"I believe the most solemn duty of the American president is to protect the American people. If America shows uncertainty and weakness in this decade, the world will drift toward tragedy. This will not happen on my watch."
"Some have argued we should wait, and that's an option. In my view, it's the riskiest of all options, because the longer we wait, the stronger and bolder Saddam Hussein will become"
"There can be no peace if our security depends on the will and whims of a ruthless and aggressive dictator. I'm not willing to stake one American life on trusting Saddam Hussein."
So, to summarize.
#1 Defend America by getting rid of threats before they materialize. 9/11 taught us that leaving a threat alone is not an option. Defending your country and your countrymen is the primary job of any President.
#2 Saddam was a terrorist. He did not attack the US on 9/11. He did pay the families of suicide bombers. He did gas his own people. He is responsible for the rape and murder of hundreds of thousands of human beings. He is responsible for cutting off people's hands and limbs for disagreeing with him. He is responsible for maiming football players for losing a match. Given the means and opportunity, he would enslave the world. He could have cause something way worse than 9/11 and given the opportunity he would have worked with Bin Laden and Al Quaeda. Remember, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
#3 Freedom is the best path to a lasting peace.
You all know that the world is better with this asshole behind bars. Bin Laden's days are numbered.
