i think you're missing my point.

If a defender is out of range of the attacker. How does hearing him charge, or not hearing him charge make any difference to what he can do about it?

Answer: None. Because there is nothing he can do about it.

So... read back to an earlier post in the Powerup Sound thread i made about this cos I dont feel like repeating myself.

a true defender will read what the offense is trying to do and stop it, a defender now has to depend on a sound, all i think is that there should be talent associated with defense instead of dependence on a sound. i really feel defenses will get better this way. what you're saying is true with defenses now, aka fake defenses

i know that you tried it before, but maybe if a decent dummy system was introduced, it could throw the defence off and let the offence at least get a shot in without taking all the skill out of it...

well you can kinda dummy now....

u power up a shot, make it look like your aiming for goal, suddenly swing towards a flanking teammate who volley's it home.

but i guess you mean an individual dummy, where it looks like your about to go left, but u actually go right...

is that what you mean?

unfortunetally, in DB, looking left and running right does jack shit because your whole body turns with your head and you wont be able to see the oncomming attacker.

What we want is exactly this:

the keeper to hear a low volume charge on all shots taken within their defensive zone (if thats possible) and the defender to only hear a charge sound if they're within hammer range of the player. This means when he starts charging all defenders wont divert attention to try and block the shot, just the one covering him.

i mean where you can cancel a chargeup. it was in an earlier version but never took off cos it was impossible to do :p

It wasn't impossible, it just made TEH bug happen much often...

Beefsack, the cancel-shot option, which was originally my idea hehe (sorry for the shameless self-promotion) was removed because
a) it caused the bug to happen more often as rens said and also
b) because it was thought that it gave an unfair advantage to the offense.

I think DavidM was working on a compromise idea where if you're charging a shot, you can still cancel but then have to commit to a pass instead. Which might work well. I wonder if we're gonna see a workin version of that in 1.7

These are the defenders i remember the most from 1.3b and 1.4b. When DB was actually harder for defenders and actually required them to stay on a man or lose.

and how many of these people have left because of the state of deathball at the moment? probably most of them, face it like most everyone else has said to u DavidM deathball needs to be the way everyone wants it NOT U.. I used to play DB all the time, now i rarely play, there are barely any american servers up and if there are its VO. Just change the damn charge sound and do something the players of deathball want.

just like how if someone has the ball in the enemy zone they get raped anyway. thats hardly going to differ.

see guy in my zone with ball, move in for kill if he is charging or not.

heh, night was the one who basically started NS, and now he's gone... sad that a lot of these great defenders left the game seeing how defending isn't that much of a 'talent' anymore

gg davidm, lets see how many people will quit after 1.7 comes out
